How to get to Phangan

Koh Phangan is simple to reach once you understand the main routes. Because the island does not have its own airport, every journey includes a ferry at some point, but the trip is straightforward and easy to plan.

Flying to Koh Samui

The fastest and most comfortable option is flying to Koh Samui.
The flight from Bangkok takes about one hour and the airport is small and easy to navigate. After landing, a short taxi ride brings you to Bangrak or Maenam Pier. From there, the ferry to Koh Phangan takes around thirty minutes.

This is the smoothest and quickest route if you want to arrive without stress and reach the island as fast as possible.

Flying to Surat Thani

A more affordable alternative is flying to Surat Thani. Several airlines operate multiple daily flights and many travellers choose this route because it offers good value for money.

After landing, you take a bus from the airport to the pier which takes about one and a half hours. From the pier, the ferry to Koh Phangan takes another one and a half hours. During high season some ferries leave from Tapee Pier instead of Donsak which shortens the travel time by around ninety minutes.

Airlines like Nok Air also offer combined tickets that include the flight, bus transfer and ferry in one booking which makes the entire journey easier.

Travelling by Bus or Train

If you prefer slow travel or are coming from another part of Thailand, you can take a bus or train to Surat Thani.
The overnight train from Bangkok is a popular choice because you sleep on the way and arrive in the morning. Once in Surat Thani, you take a taxi to the pier and then continue by ferry to Koh Phangan.

This option takes longer but is budget friendly and easy to book through platforms that offer combined travel packages.

Ferries to Koh Phangan

No matter which route you choose, the final part of the journey will be by ferry.
Lomprayah High-Speed Ferries are the fastest and most comfortable, using modern catamarans with air-conditioned seating. Raja Ferry and Seatran Discovery also operate daily services and are reliable alternatives, although they take a bit longer.

It is important to check the ferry schedule in advance and make sure your flight or train arrival time matches the next available departure.
