Mongolia is the most sparsely populated country on earth. Three million people. A territory four times the size of Germany. Most of it has no roads, no fences, and no buildings.

A third of the population still lives nomadically, moving home with the seasons, herding livestock across land that belongs to everyone and no one. This is not a museum exhibit. It is a living culture navigating its own complex present.

We spent six days in the Gobi Desert with Ami, a guide who was born into a nomadic family in western Mongolia and has spent her life moving between two worlds. What she shared over several long desert evenings, about daily ger life, the real price of a horse, how Mongolians greet each other by season, and what it means to leave a place without a trace, is the kind of knowledge you will not find in a standard travel article.
